Any designer who is trained in print design and/or typography would probably tell you that a big pet peeve is straight quote marks. Actually inch marks, they are far too frequently used as quote marks - and make me cringe each and every time I see them. Using an inch mark as an apostrophe is the same thing.
I read a post today about this very peeve.
