So Shane and I made it to a super market today.... and purchased a few things for the next couple of days. One of the things we bought were frozen dumplings - fortunately they had pictures on the packaging so we knew we were getting potato and chicken.... not liver. Liver dumplings are not my fav. I will eat them, but I like chicken much better. After deliberating over jars of what I hope is close to spaghetti sauce, we made our way to the check out.
I annoyed the check out girl right off the bat, by missing her question of whether I needed bags (which you have to purchase here). But other than our salami not ringing up, and her just not giving it to us... it was fine.
We got back and I "cooked" our first lunch at the apartment. Chicken dumplings, green peas, bread and cheese, and applesauce. The stove is an old gas one that you have to light with a match... but I was successful in not blowing anything up - so all is good. I was wondering why there was a door to close off the kitchen, but then quickly realized the reasoning as the temperature went from comfortable to about 90 degrees two seconds after turning the oven on. Despite being frozen, the dumplings were really good... I can't wait to make them at home. Sasha, the facilitator, explained how to make pork and beef dumplings - which are sure to be great.
Tonight and all day tomorrow we are going to be working working working. We have a lot of freelance, and Shane has regular work, to catch up on. Sergey, the interpreter, will be here tomorrow night and will be staying in the apartment with us. It will be nice to have help learning our way around, etc!
